He served as an assistant producer on the 1971 Golden Globe Award-nominated film “The Walking Major.” Yoda started using his middle name of James more frequently and worked as a vice-president for Toyota, according to Edson Stroll (Virgil on the show), who also made this claim in the cast reunion extra feature on the McHale’s Navy first season DVD set. Yoda had acquired his American citizenship, he added in his report. Yoda had been a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, for fifteen years, working as Toyota’s assistant vice president of inventory while also participating in the Lions Club and becoming a citizen of the United States.

Relationship
In June 1964, Yoda made the announcement that he would marry Japanese fashion model Yoko Okazaki. Yoda presided over the judging panel that selected Nisek Week Festival Queen in 1965 at Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
