Why did Vijay Sethupathi get angry at the reporter? Explaining the situation
Vijay and Katrina attended a press conference over their upcoming project “Merry Christmas” and during the conversation with reporters Vijay Sethupathi expressed his frustration with a reporter during a press conference in Chennai when questioned about his views on the political situation in Tamil Nadu, particularly regarding opposition to the Hindi language.
In response, Sethupathi strongly disagreed with the assertion that Hindi was being opposed and questioned the persistent nature of such inquiries. He recalled similar questions being posed to Aamir Khan in the past.
Sethupathi clarified that the objection was not against studying Hindi but against imposing it. He pointed out that many people in the region were still studying Hindi without any hindrance. He referred to Minister PTR (Thyagarajan), who had provided a clear explanation on this matter.

In a different meeting with the cast of “Merry Christmas,” including Kartina and Vijay, they addressed ongoing debates between north and south Indian films. Vijay emphasized that during the teaser launch, he was asked about the division between the two industries, and someone on stage suggested that the advent of OTT platforms had broken down this barrier, as evident now.
The reporter mentioned that people still wear t-shirts with ‘Hindi theriyadhu poda’ (I don’t know Hindi).
Vijay Sethupathi intervened, stating firmly, “Hindi, as a language, was never opposed.”
The reporter continued, asking if the language should be learned. In response, the actor sharply criticized the reporter, recalling a similar question posed to Aamir Khan. Sethupathi clarified that the opposition was not against learning Hindi but against its imposition.
