Neel Acharya, an Indian student enrolled at Purdue University, was reported missing on Sunday and has now been confirmed dead, as stated by the Tippecanoe County Coroner.
The Coroner’s Office received a call around 11:30 am on Sunday regarding a potential deceased individual at 500 Allison Road in West Lafayette.
Upon reaching the location, officials discovered the lifeless body of a college-aged male on Purdue’s campus, subsequently identified as Neel Acharya.
Gaury Acharya, the mother of the deceased student, posted on social media, seeking help in finding her missing son.

According to her post, Neel was last seen by an Uber driver who dropped him off at Purdue University.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago responded to Gaury Acharya’s post, assuring that they are in contact with Purdue University authorities and Neel’s family, pledging full support.
Chris Clifton, the interim head of Purdue University’s computer science department, confirmed Neel Acharya’s death in an email sent to students and faculty, as reported by Purdue Exponent, an independent multimedia agency.
Tragically, this incident follows another distressing event earlier in the week where another Indian student lost their life in a brutal attack with a hammer by a homeless man in Lithonia, Georgia.
The police swiftly acted on visual evidence, leading to prompt arrests. The victim’s remains, an Indian citizen named Vivek, were sent back to his family in India on January 24.
