Starting formal education at six, he enrolled in a local Islamic elementary school and continued his studies at the Babakan Ciwaringin Islamic Boarding School, founded by his father in 1952. There, he delved into various Islamic subjects, including the Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Tafsir, Aqidah, Tasawwuf, and the Arabic language.
