Klaus Grabowski was 35 years old when he was killed. He was a convicted physical assault offender. He has been sentenced for the physical abuse of two girls.
In 1976, Klaus submitted to chemical castration and underwent hormone treatment to try to reverse the castration.
On 5 May 1980, a 7-year-old girl Anna Bachmeier argued with her mother so she decided to skip school on that day. On the same day, she was abducted by 35-year-old Klaus Grabowski whose home Anna used to visit before to play with his cats.
Klaus physically assaulted her at his home for several hours and strangled her with a pair of his fiancee’s tights. Klaus tied Anna and packed her into a box that was left on the shore of a canal.
Klaus’s fiancee turned Klaus into the police. Klaus stated that Anna wanted to tell her mother that she was abused physically by him to extort money from him so he didn’t want to go back to prison and that thought prompted him to kill her.
On the 3rd day of the trial on 6 March 1981 around 10 am, Anna’s mother Marianne Bachmeier entered with a Beretta 70 pistol into the courtroom of Lubeck District Court and killed Klaus Grabowski with the pistol in the back. She aimed the gun at Klaus’s back and fired 7 times.
Then she lowered her pistol and she was apprehended without resistance. For the killing of Klaus, she was convicted of manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm. She was sentenced to 6 years but she was released after three years on bail.
She passed away at the age of 46 from pancreatic cancer in a hospital in Lubeck on 17 September 1996. Her final rites were held next to her daughter in Burgtor Cemetery. Before dying, she asked Lukas Maria Bohmer (Norddeutscher Rundfunk reporter) to accompany her and film the last stages of her life.
