What Is De Bruyne Illness? – Kevin De Bruyne popularly known as De Bruyne, is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Premier League club Manchester City and the Belgium national team. He is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world. Pundits have often described him as the “complete footballer”.
What Is De Bruyne Illness? Why is Kevin De Bruyne Not Playing For Manchester City against Leipzig?
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will miss their UEFA Champions League last 16 first-leg tie with RB Leipzig due to illness. The Belgian’s absence is a big blow for Pep Guardiola’s side.
De Bruyne has been in excellent form as ever, scoring four goals and providing 18 assists in 31 games across competitions. He has three assists in four Champions League games.
Manchester City is still looking to win Europe’s elite club competition for the first time. Their first objective is to overcome an intriguing Leipzig team. They will have to do so without Kevin de Bruyne.
The Belgian midfielder was not selected in City’s 22-man squad for the clash at the Red Bull Arena. Guardiola opted to replace him with the signing of Maximo Perron in January.
However, Manchester City fans will be wary of how they fare in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne. He has been instrumental in the team’s recent success, winning the Premier League four times.
Guardiola confirmed that both De Bruyne and Laporte had not made the trip due to illness. He said he was not sure whether any players would be available for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth. Although City does not lack quality options in attacking midfield and could use Julian Alvarez alongside Erling Haaland, the loss of De Bruyne will be keenly felt after an impressive run of performances, especially A goal and an assist in a 3–1 win over Arsenal.

The absence of Laporte and Stones also gives City some defensive headaches, although it has three fit center backs to call upon in Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, and Nathan Ake. Should Guardiola opt not to continue with Bernardo Silva playing out of position, the latter could be considered at left-back.
Meanwhile, City goalkeeper Ederson has named winning the Champions League as his side’s “main objective” even as they battle for Premier League supremacy with Arsenal. Guardiola’s side has won every major domestic honor in recent years, but European glory is still some distance away from the defeated finalists in 2021, who were knocked out in dramatic fashion in last season’s semi-finals by Real Madrid.
“It is our main objective, the main objective of the club,” Ederson said. “We know this is a very tough tournament. A lot can happen in 90 minutes. In football, the things you least expect surprise you the most, but we are ready.”
“We’re trying and will keep trying. We haven’t won it yet; we’ve reached the final [in 2021], and a few semi-finals, and we didn’t come out with a good result. But I think this year, we are capable of reaching the finals and challenging for the title. Of course, football doesn’t always go the way we want it to, but we’re going to try again. We’re coming after that.”
