Tricia Penrose is well and fine but her mother Sue was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2010. Through her mother’s treatment, Tricia became involved with Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Later she became an ambassador of the foundation. She raised funds for the charity to mark the organization’s 25th anniversary in 2015.

Tricia Penrose gave up work to care for her mother who was diagnosed with lung cancer. Her mother’s recovery has astonished doctors. When Tricia knew about her mother’s lung cancer, she stopped her work and spent her days caring for her mother Sue Gordon who is 60 years old. Tricia said,
“Mum and I have always been incredibly close. She had me when she was only 16 and we worked together from when I was 15 as a singing duo called Second Image on the club circuit around Liverpool.

Her battle with lung cancer has brought us even closer together. She never used to tell me she loved me but she’s been telling me all the time since she was diagnosed. That she is still with us is nothing short of a miracle.”
Sue had been suffering with a nagging cough, weight loss, and shooting pains in her right side which she had attributed to her work as a cleaner. When doctors investigated in July 2010 they discovered a four-inch tumour in her right lung.
“It was stage three advanced, inoperable lung cancer. “It was awful. Mum was only 56 and lung cancer survival statistics are not good. I was advised to spend quality time with her over the next two to three weeks because that was how bad it was.”
