Tayvin Galanakis Parents:- On August 28, Tayvin Galanakis, a 19-year-old college student, was detained and accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to body camera footage from a Newton police officer. Three hours later, Galanakis was released without being charged after successfully completing a series of field sobriety tests.

Video captured on Galanakis’ cell phone shows him questioning Nathan Winters, the arresting officer, about their encounter just before he exited the police station.
In the recording, Galanakis is also heard telling Winters that he wasted his time, should try harder the next time, and should apologise. Galanakis claims that Winters unlawfully placed him in handcuffs that evening and that he was not intoxicated or under the influence of any narcotics.
A day later, Galanakis wrote a lengthy Facebook entry about his meeting with Winters. More than 500 people have shared, commented on, and reacted to the message since then.
Suspect Of Drinking
Galanakis claimed in his post that he was stopped for using high beam headlights in the city; the claim was confirmed by Newton Police Chief Rob Burdess in a press release on September 2.
On August 28 at 12:12 in the morning, a traffic check was made close to the water tower in Newton. When he got close to the car, Winters introduced himself and gave the reason he had stopped Galanakis.
Galanakis acknowledged that his headlight was faulty. Then, while looking for his registration, Winters questioned Galanakis about his vehicle and his origins. He had recently returned from a friend’s home.

Miscommunication In Testing
Along with Newton Police Lt. Chris Wing, who followed Winters throughout the entire traffic stop, the two get out of the car and proceed to the sidewalk to carry out the tests. Galanakis was forced to follow Winters’ pointer as he examined Galanakis’ eyes. Galanakis chuckles after about 60 seconds of moving his finger.
How many more do we have? Galanis enquired. Oh, the exam will take about two minutes, stated Winters.
The landscape that night was lit up by streetlights and flashlights. And it started to pour. Galanakis lamented the state of his hair due to the weather before speaking with Winters about the officer’s football-playing experiences in Knoxville. Winters claimed that he suffered too many concussions to continue playing collegiate basketball.
Failed Tests Increase Suspicion
Galanakis’s left or right foot must be raised six inches off the ground and kept straight for the next test. Galanakis is instructed to remain in that position and tally off in the following order: “1,0001, 1,0002, 1,0003, 1,0004”.
Galanakis was questioned by Winters about why he is shaking so much prior to the exam. Galanakis claims he is shivering in the rain and that he is anxious about being wrongly accused of driving under the influence. He is wearing a sweater and shorts that are above his knees. Galanakis continues the challenge and raises his leg.
