Sudhir Naik was an Indian cricketer who played three Test matches and two One Day Internationals for the Indian cricket team in 1974.
He performed very well and in the Ranji Trophy, he scored 2687 runs (40.10) with the highest score of 200 not out against Baroda in 1973–74.
But perhaps his greatest distinction was that he led Bombay to an unexpected Ranji Trophy victory in 1970–71. It had ended badly with the Indian team in the West Indies being away from the stars. But he proved himself to be a shrewd captain, using the limited resources efficiently.
He had one of the most extensive and influential careers in domestic Indian cricket in various capacities as a cricketer, coach, and ground curator.
He started his career playing for Bombay University and later captained the Tata Oil Mills team where he was an employee. He was a rare combination of a cricketer and an organic chemist with a first-class MSc in Organic Chemistry from Ruparel College, Bombay.
Apart from playing for India, he also captained Bombay in the Ranji Trophy for several years.
