He rose to prominence in the UK underground music industry in 2014 as a result of his Wicked Skengman freestyle series, which he recorded over classic grime sounds.

Stormzy was a fan of music, although his family was not particularly musical. He attended South Norwood Tech. He began rapping at the age of 11, and in the local youth centre, he engaged in battles with more seasoned rappers.

Career
Stormzy independently released his debut EP Dreamers Disease in July 2014 after gaining recognition on the UK underground music scene with his Wicked Skengman series of freestyles over traditional grime sounds.
Stormzy won Best Grime Act at the MOBO Awards on October 22, 2014. He performed the song “Not That Deep” from Dreamers Disease on Later with Jools Holland later that month, becoming the first unsigned rapper to do so.

Controversy
Stormzy’s series of homophobic remarks from 2011 were discovered to have been published on Twitter in November 2017. He called a gay character on the soap show EastEnders a “fucking fag” in one of his tweets, among other offensive remarks.
