Roderick The youngest of Robert Joseph Stewart and Elsie Rebecca Gilbart’s five children, David Stewart was born on January 10, 1945, at 507 Archway Road in Highgate, North London. His father was Scottish and had been a master builder in Leith, Edinburgh, whilst Elsie was English and had grown up in Upper Holloway in North London. The couple, who got married in 1928, resided in Scotland and had two sons and two daughters.
Education
His performance at Highgate Primary School was average, and he failed the eleven plus test. He then went to William Grimshaw Secondary Modern School in Muswell Hill, which later became Fortismere School. The family lived above the newsagent’s business that his father purchased on the Archway Road after retiring from the construction industry. Stewart’s primary pastime was railroad modelling.
Career
Stewart delivered newspapers and worked at the family business. The brief time he spent working as a labourer for Highgate Cemetery later formed another chapter of his life story. He worked in a North Finchley funeral house, built fences, and made signs. In 1961, he visited Denmark Street with The Raiders and was given the opportunity to perform for famed record producer Joe Meek. However, Meek abruptly ended the session. Stewart moved into a beatnik houseboat in Shoreham-by-Sea and developed a liking for left-wing politics and beatnik lifestyle.

Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster are married and has one son. Following an incident at a Florida hotel, Stewart and his 39-year-old son, Sean, were detained in January 2020, and Stewart was charged with aggravated assault. On February 5, he was scheduled to appear in court. Guy Fronstin, Stewart’s defence attorney, informed Judge August Bonavita in October 2020 that he had spoken with the prosecution and it is unlikely that the matter will proceed to trial.
