What Happened

The shootings happened in Arkabutla, Tennessee, a small, unincorporated village in Tate County that is about 20 miles south of the Tennessee-Mississippi border. The victims of shootings were found in four different locations, including outside of a store on Arkabutla Road and inside a house on Arkabutla Dam Road, according to local TV station WMC.

A second person who was harmed but not shot was found at one of the shooting spots, according to WMC. The authorities have not released the names of the perpetrator or all of the victims.

Authorities have concluded that some of the victims were acquainted with the suspect even though the motive is still under investigation. Yet, it is unknown what his relationships with each of them are like. Other media sites claimed that Crum shot his stepfather and stepfather’s sister in addition to his ex wife.

Lockdown After Killing Of People

Some businesses and Coldwater Elementary School were placed on lockdown following the killings in Tate County on Friday. According to a statement from the school, the lockdown was lifted by early afternoon. A spokesperson for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Bailey C. Martin, stated that the bureau was assisting with the investigation but declined to provide any additional information, directing inquiries to the Tate County Sheriff’s Office.

Criminal Charges

Sheriff Lance stated that Richard Dale Crum was in custody and mentioned that he had been charged with one count of first-degree murder, with additional charges expected in the coming days. It was unclear if Mr. Crum had legal representation.

The six victims were identified as Chris Boyce, 59; Debra Crum, 60; John Rorie, 59; Charles Manuel, 76; George McCain, 73; and Lynda McCain, 78 by Ernie Lentz, a deputy coroner in Tate County. All of the fatalities, with the exception of Mr. Boyce, who was from Lakeland, Florida, were from the neighbouring community of Coldwater, Miss., where the McCains were siblings, according to Mr. Lentz.
