Nangolo Mbumba took the oath of office on 4 January 2-24 in the capital Windhoek as the nation’s fourth president after Hage Geingob’s death at the age of 82. Nangolo said in a statement which was released by the Namibian presidency on Sunday morning,
“It is with utmost sadness and regret that I inform you that our beloved Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the president of the Republic of Namibia, has passed on today, Sunday, 4 February 2024, at around 00h04 at Lady Pohamba Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment from his medical team.”
“His medical team … has been trying its utmost best to ensure that our president recovers,” Mbumba said in the statement. “Regrettably, notwithstanding the team’s spirited effort to save his life, sadly, fellow Namibians, President Geingob passed on.”

Who is Nangolo Mbumba?
Nangolo Mbuma is the 4th president of Namibia. He took the oath as 4th president of Namibia after former president Hage Geingob. Nangolo used to work under Hage Geingob as the 2nd vice president of Namibia from 2018 until Hage’s death.

Career
In 1978, Nangolo Mbumba joined the SWAPO Education Centre in Cuanza Sul, Angola as the head of the science department after returning to Africa. He had been a personal secretary to SWAPO president Sam Nujoma where he became the president of Namibia.
Nangolo served as the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development from 1993 to 1996. He served as Minister of Finance from 1996 to 2003. Nangolo served as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting from 2003 to 2005. He was Minister of Education from 2005 to 2010.
Nangolo had been Minister of Safety and Security from 2010 to 4 December 2012. He served as the SWAPO Secretary-General from December 2013 to November 2017.
