Memphis shooting today news, Now Active shooter Memphis identified

A man suspected of kidnapping and killing a Memphis teacher who was out jogging was temporarily held without bail on Wednesday on murder charges, it added after her body was identified.

Cleosha Henderson, who is accused of killing 34-year-old Eliza “Lisa” Fletcher after kidnapping her in Memphis earlier on Friday, appeared in court wearing prison clothes and a mask on her face. This is his second hearing in two days.

Shelby County Judge Louis J. Montesi Jr. on Wednesday revoked a previously set $500,000 bail — when Henderson was only charged with kidnapping and tampering with evidence in the case — — and said a full bail hearing would be held later.
The judge also ruled that the court would recognize the suspect’s legal surname as Henderson. Authorities previously referred to him as Cleosha Abston.

Montecy then suspended the hearing and said it would resume on Thursday, when the judge said he would hear a defense motion on Henderson’s representation. Montesi did not elaborate on the requirement.

Following Wednesday’s trial, Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy diverted reporters’ questions about what sentence Henderson would pursue if he was convicted. The penalty for first-degree murder is life in prison, with or without parole, or the death penalty.

“It is too early to discuss what kind of punishment we will seek,” Mulroy said outside court.
Fletcher’s disappearance sparked an intense pursuit — encouraged by surveillance footage, police said she was forced into an SUV while jogging early Friday — that led to Henderson at his Memphis home on Saturday. Arrested nearby.

Authorities said Fletcher’s body was found near a vacant semi-detached home on Monday and was released on Tuesday.

The teacher’s death, which authorities described as violent, resonated in Tennessee, where questions still surround where, how and why she was killed.
Still, “investigators have no reason to believe this was an isolated attack by a stranger,” Mulroy told reporters on Tuesday
