He was a minister in the Telangana government, He was a lecturer in his early career at the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore of English. He participated in the Telangana movement in 1969.

In 1971 he fought elections for MP and won from Telangana Praja Samithi’ Ticket. He served as an AICC general secretary from 1980 to 1983 where he was closely associated with Indra Gandhi. He became APSRTC chairman from 1990 to 1994, and in 2000 he was made PCC chief till 2004.
