Jannat was a former IAS officer in 1977 in the cadre of United Andhra Pradesh.
Jannat served as the Collector of the Nellore district.
Jannat worked in many posts such as “the Agricultural Commissioner, Rural Development Commissioner, Commissioner of GHMC, Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare, and Secretary of the Department of Energy”.
He came to the limelight when Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy signed the first file of free electricity to the farmers after the swearing-in was held in LB stadium in 2004.
Jannat was appointed as the Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Later Jannat was nominated for the position of Chief Information Commissioner of United AP in 2010.
