Jaime Tran Wiki:- The Justice Department has charged a former resident of Riverside with two counts of hate crimes for allegedly shooting two Jewish men as they left religious services outside of two Los Angeles synagogues over the course of the previous two days.
Tran shot an Orthodox Jewish man in his 70s as he was leaving a different synagogue while still inside his car. The criminal complaint mentions the second victim’s yarmulke as well. According to the officials, both guys survived the shootings. In Tran’s car, police also seized an AK-style rifle and a.380-caliber handgun.

Jaime Tran, 28, allegedly targeted the two victims because he thought they were Jews or because they were Jewish, according to the complaint. The maximum statutory punishment for each of the two hate crimes is life in prison without the possibility of parole because the complaint alleges that Tran attempted to kill the two victims.
Tran appeared in court for the first time this afternoon after being seized Thursday night and charged this morning. The lawsuit claims that Tran is responsible for the two hate-related acts this week. The shootings occurred in Los Angeles’ Pico-Robertson neighbourhood.
Incident Time
According to reports, the first incident happened on Wednesday at about 9:45 a.m. As the victim was leaving synagogue services, Tran is charged with shooting him at close range. This person survived the attack but was shot in the lower back.
After leaving religious services at a separate synagogue in the same neighbourhood, Tran allegedly shot a second victim at close range in the second incident, which happened on Thursday at around 8 a.m. The second victim survived a gunshot wound to the upper arm.

Investigation
As described in the criminal complaint, detectives proceeded quickly to identify Tran’s vehicle, collect witness testimony, and compile Tran’s background information.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada for the Central District of California, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, A D Luis Quesada of the FBI’s and Assistant Director in Charge Donald Alway of the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The situation is being looked into by the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI Los Angeles Field Office.
History
Tran had a history of uttering antisemitic statements, the lawsuit claimed. Tran allegedly informed his classmates that Jews are “primitive” in December 2022 and urged them to blame the “Iranian Jew” for business losses.
Tran is accused of sending the ex-classmate texts “Someone is going to kill you, Jew,” and “I want you dead, Jew,” between August and November 2022. According to reports, Tran, who has been homeless and living in his car for a year, admitted responsibility for the shootings and claimed he chose to target the guys because of their traditional Jewish garb.
