John Richard Jeanneret died on Thursday at the age of 81. Jeanneret was regarded as the voice of the Buffalo Sabres and NHL team. John Richard Jeanneret did his first broadcast on the radio in 1971. John joined the broadcast team on TV in 1995.
He was born on 23 July 1942 in St. Cathariness, Ontario, Canada, and died on August 17, 2023. He was a Canadian citizen of Swiss descent.

Jeanneret’s tenure as a Sabres announcer began at the start of the 1971-72 season, the franchise’s second, and ended with his retirement at the end of the 2021-22 season. In 2012, he received the NHL’s highest broadcasting honour, the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from the Hockey Hall of Fame, and his stay as a play-by-play commentator with one team is the longest in league history. 

Jeanneret was known for his energetic delivery. He announced every Sabres season from 1971-72 through 2021-22. He also worked alongside Jim Lorentz for over 20 years before Lorentz retired. Jeanneret career began off-air at CHUM in Toronto. According to the information he helped close the on the final night of the regular season in 1996.
His other memorable yells were “La-la-la-la-Fontaine!” when former Sabres captain Pat LaFontaine scored in the 1990s. During the Sabres’ journey to the Eastern Conference final in 2006, he made the “Now do you believe?” call.
