Gas tanker explosion in Frederic & Driver dead, no other injuries reported

A gas tanker exploded on Saturday in Frederick, Maryland, killing the driver. The public information officer Ron Snyder, for the Maryland State Police (MDSP), confirmed the death and said there were no other injuries.

According to CNN reports that nearby homes and vehicles were damaged in the fire.

Area residents were told by city officials to avoid the area. Route 15 was also closed according to a tweet from MSDP. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

 

“Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue are on the scene of what appears to be a tanker explosion in the area of 15 and Rosemont Ave,”

Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor said on Facebook.

“We are providing all available resources to assist with this incident. We will continue to support DFRS (Division of Fire & Rescue Services) as they lead incident control and clean-up. I implore all residents to avoid the area to allow DFRS to do their jobs and prevent any fire from spreading.”

The Twitter account TheCityofFrederickMD reported that some houses adjacent to Apple Avenue were on fire. Other users, possibly locals, confirmed the news.
