Elena Rybakina has taken a break from her matches. She said,

“I wouldn’t say that I had much time off. Now I had off only because of the virus, but I didn’t get a chance to do anything. I was just in bed.

“Well, the holidays I took, as I said, either because I was sick now or, like, not really. I was actually traveling, playing a lot, practicing, so … Maybe after Wimbledon.”

Elena Rybakina is recovered from the illness. She fell ill due to the lingering virus.

Elena Rybakina Pulls out of French Open due to illness

Elena Rybakina got affected by her illness during the French Open causing her to pull out in the 3rd round. She took a break from the Eastbourne tournament due to the lingering virus.

She announced her decision not to take the court for her 3rd round match against Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo.

She told to reporters,

“I was not feeling good already yesterday and the day before, so I didn’t sleep two nights and had some fever. I tried to warm up, but I feel that the right decision is to withdraw.”

“I saw the doctor and they said there’s a virus doing the rounds here in Paris. With my allergy, immune system went down and I picked up something. I had fever, headache. It’s difficult to run and even breathe.”

Elena battles through illness to defend at Wimbledon

Elena opened up about the effects of the illness that forced her to end her participation at the 2023 French Open Championship. She disclosed the challenges she faced in recovering from illness. She said in her pre-tournament press conference,

“It’s been tough actually. At the French Open, after I withdrew, I went back to the hotel and it was even worse so I had to stay in Paris for a few days not leaving the room. I started my preparation week after just slowly starting and it was tough since it was a virus.”

She also told that she is not the best physically to gain match experience in Eastbourne ahead of her title defense at Wimbledon 2023. She said,

“So I still think that I’m not 100 percent physically where I want to be but slowly it’s getting better and hopefully I can get some more matches here and feel more comfortable at Wimbledon.”
