Anjet Daanje’s Career

Anjet Daanje studied mathematics at Utrecht University, and later she obtained her doctorate degree in 1991. During her studies, at the age of 21, Anjet wrote the 1st draft of Piano Music in the Rain, her 1st novel, which was published in 1993.

For her next novel, The Blind Photographer, she adopted Daanje as the author’s name, her mother’s surname, under which she has been publishing ever since.

From 2001 to 2011 her novels were published by Uitgeverij Thomas Rap / De Bezige Bij, and from September 2016, she publish her novels at Uitgeverij Passage.

From 2021, reissues of her older novels will be published by Pluim Publishers.

In 2002, director Hanro Smitsman approached her and asked her to turn 5 pages of her novel Suikerbeest into a screenplay for a short film to work on. That became the short film Dajo. Since then, Anjet Daanje has been writing film scripts professionally in addition to prose.

Anjet’s 6th novel, Gezel in Marble, which was published in 2006 by Publisher Thomas Rap, received very favorable reviews in De Groene Amsterdammer (Marja Pruis) and the Leeuwarder Courant (Kees’t Hart, among others).

Kees’t Hart got upset in De Groene Amsterdammer about the fact that the novel was not getting more attention.
