Ameen Sayani was a famous former radio announcer who achieved fame and popularity all across the Indian Subcontinent for his show Binaca Geetmala. He passed away at the age of 91 on 20 February 2024 in Mumbai after suffering a heart attack.
His death news was announced by his son Rajil Sayani to Indianexpress.com. His funeral service took place on 22 February 2024 becasue his family was waiting for some relatives to reach Mumbai on Wednesday.
Ameen Sayani suffered a heart attack on 20 February 2024 at night then he was rushed to HN Reliance Hospital where he passed away. His son said,
“The doctors at the hospital attended him but couldn’t save him and he was declared dead.”

Ameen Sayani had been married to Rama Mattoo who is a Kashmiri Pandit. They got married in 1963. Ameen and Rama became the parents of their son Rajil Sayani who is a radio presenter and a voice-over artist.
Ameen Sayani’s wife played a very important role in his life because her support used to work as motivation for him.
Ameen began suffering from various health issues such as diabetes, kidney failure, and heart problems. In 2003, he underwent a bypass surgery and lost his eyesight due to glaucoma.
On 19 February 2024, he was admitted to the hospital after he felt chest pain. He suffered from a heart attack and passed away at the hospital.
Ameen Sayani is survived by his wife Rama Mattoo, his son Rajil, his daughter-in-law, and his grandson.
Ameen left an estimated net worth of around Rs 3 Crore INR for his wife and son behind his death. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2009 and Golden Abb, the Kaan Hall of Fame Award, the Living Legend Award, the Hindi Ratna Puraskar, and the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1992, he was featured in the Limca Book of Records as the Person of the Year.
Ameen Sayani was born on 21 December 1932 in Mumbai to Jan Mohamed Sayani (Father) and Kulsum Sayani (Mother).
Ameen’s father was a politician and lawyer whereas his mother was a social activist and a journalist. He had three siblings including his elder brother Hamid Sayani who was a radio presenter who mentored him.
In his childhood, Ameend used to help his mother in printing, publishing, and editing her journal Rehber from 1940 to 1960. He completed his higher secondary education at St. Xavier’s High School, Fort, and graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1954 from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai.
