99 More Criminal Charges On Alex
Aside from the murder investigation, Murdaugh is charged with a whopping 99 crimes across 19 different indictments for a series of money fraud schemes. He is charged with stealing at least $8.7 million from settlements from numerous clients he helped defend through his legal business PMPED.
Prosecutors claim that one of the schemes involved Murdaugh settling wrongful death and other claims on behalf of his customers in order to steal the money for himself. The alleged schemes, which stretch back to 2011, were about to be revealed when the murders occurred. Prosecutors asserted during Murdaugh’s trial that he killed his wife and boy in order to divert attention from his financial crimes.

Charges Over Botched Hitman Plot
Murdaugh is also being prosecuted for a bizarrely foiled hitman plan from September 2021. Murdaugh was shot on the side of a road in Hampton County on September 4, 2021, which was one day after he was fired from his law company for embezzling money and three months after the murders.
He managed to escape and dialled 911, saying he had been attacked in a drive-by shooting while working on his car’s tyre. He was given medical care for what the police described as a “superficial gunshot wound to the head” at a hospital, but his story soon fell apart.

Investigation Into Gloria Satterfield’s Death
Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaugh family’s housekeeper for 20 years, perished in a puzzling trip and fall accident at the Moselle estate, and her death is still under investigation.
When she was discovered at the foot of the stairs leading up to the family’s home, Satterfield had been employed by the powerful Murdaugh family for more than 20 years. She succumbed to her wounds a few weeks later.
Although her death certificate listed her mode of death as “natural” and no autopsy was done, at the time, it was assumed that she had fallen and died as a result.
