Naba Kishore Das, Odisha minister, breathed his last on Sunday evening. After being shot by an assistant sub-inspector, Gopal Das, the minister died some hours later in the hospital. A video clip of the shocking incident even surfaced on social media which featured Mr. Das getting out of his car while people around him garlanded him. Meanwhile, the ASI in police uniform opened fire at the minister with his service revolver. He reportedly shot him around 5 times. According to reports, Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Minister was shot at around 12:00 PM when he was on his way to attend an event. The bullets entered his body and injured his heart and left lung. Taking his health into consideration, he was immediately taken to the hospital but since he had sustained multiple injuries because of the bullets, he could not survive and succumbed to his injuries. Following the announcement of his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and paid him tributes.

The PM wrote that he is saddened by the unfortunate demise of the Minister in the Odisha Government and offered his deepest condolences to his family in this difficult time. Hospital officials said that after being operated, it was found that a single bullet had entered and exited Kishore’s body and had injured the heart and left lung and went on to cause massive internal bleeding and injury. They further said that the injuries were repaired and steps were taken to improve the pumping of the heart.
Because of his health condition, he was given urgent ICU care. However, despite all the efforts, he could not be revived and succumbed to his injuries. Talking about Naba Das, in June 2022, he became the health minister of Naveen Patnaik’s government. Before joining the BJD before the 2019 elections, he was a long-time Congressman. It is said that he entered into politics during his college days at Sambalpur’s Gangadhar Mehr College.
Studying law in college, he became the student’s union president. Later, Naba became the vice president of Odisha NSUI and Odisha Youth Congress. The 60-year-old was reportedly the second richest minister in the state and in 2019, he became the health minister. Naba Das has an estimated net worth of Rs. 34 crores and owned 80 vehicles.
