Matt Ratan was British police sergeant Matiu”Matt” Ratana who was born in New Zealand and was shot and killed before his 2-month retirement after serving nearly 30 years with the Metropolitan Police by a 23 years old boy at that time whose name has been identified as Louis De Zyosa when he was being taken to the detention centre on 25 September 2023. Lois De Zoysa shot himself before going tackled to the ground as Sergeant Matt Ratana approached the suspect to help with a search.

Louis De Zoysa who is 26 now, opened fire on Matt Ratana without warning using a legally-bought antique revolver and homemade bullets, causing a fatal wound to his heart and lung. Sgt Ratana who was 54  later died in hospital.

De Zoysa, a former tax officer, was handcuffed at the time of the September 2020 attack at Croydon police station in south London and suffered brain damage after one of the four shots he fired hit him in the neck.

As of 2023 now Louis plead to the court De Zoysa claimed he was only guilty of manslaughter because he had suffered an “autistic meltdown” while in custody but he was convicted of murder following a trial at Northampton Crown Court.

The court give a statementing and decision to  Loius De Zyosa who shot dead Metropolitan police custody sergeant Matt Ratana after smuggling a gun into a holding cell in Croydon, South London has been sentenced to life in prison.
