Who Was Linda de Suza?

According to reports, Linda de Suza immigrated to France in 1970 and it was the year she entered the musical world. She reportedly made a career in music in that year only. On the official website of the Portuguese presidency, a note was published where it was written that Teolinda de Souza Lanca, who became known artistically as Linda de Suza, was an emblematic figure in several ways. “The artist remains in our memory as an example of determination and fidelity”, added Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. She further said that Linda was a French icon of Portuguese immigration and therefore an icon of Portugal.

Linda de Souza was born in 1948 in the district of Beja, Alentejo. She started singing at the restaurant Chez Loisette in Saint-Ouen. One of those days when she was singing at the said restaurant, composer Andre Pascal discovered her. Later, the composer introduced her to another composer named Alex Alstone. After that, she got a television appearance on Michel Drucker’s Rendz-Vous du Dimanche. There, she performed the song titled “Un Portugais” whose single went platinum in France in 1979. In the meantime, the singer signed a contract with the record label Carrere.
