Born on August 31, 1940, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, United States, Bill played a total of 15 seasons in the major leagues with 7 teams. His most notable years were from 1977 to 1981 with the Red Sox. Apart from that, Bill also played for the Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and Montreal Expos. As mentioned, 1977 was his best season as he was selected for the American League All-Star team. With a 2.96 earned run average, Campbell was 13-9 while registering an American League-leading 31 saves. In Cy Young Voting, the man even finished 5th.
