Reports claim that in 2017, Vialli was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was also given the all-clear a year later, only for the illness to come back. Confirming Vialli’s death, Sampdoria wrote that he once said that he knew that he will not die of old age and he hopes to live as long as possible but he feels much more fragile than before. Now, it is coming forward that the player has died and has left his family, friends, and, fans in profound grief.

Gianluca Vialli started his playing career with his hometown team, Cremonese then went on to play for Sampdoria, Juventus, and Chelsea before transitioning into management and coaching. He played 59 times for Italy, scoring 16 goals, and was a member of the 1986 and 1990 World Cup sides. Recently, it was revealed that Vialli would give up his position as head of the Italian delegation to concentrate on his pancreatic cancer treatment.
Vialli was expecting he would be able to regain his national-team role after recently reuniting with Roberto Mancini, his former Sampdoria strike partner, in the Italy setup. In November, Vialli revealed he had received chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The goal is to use all of my psycho-physical resources to assist my body to overcome this phase of the sickness, in order to be able to face new adventures as soon as possible and share them with all of you, Vialli said on December 14 when he announced his intention to halt his involvement with Italy.
In an emotive post posted on Friday, Sampdoria wrote: “You gave us so much, and we gave you so much, yes, it was love, mutual, and endless. a love that won’t pass away with you today. Because you are superior to Pelé, which you well know, we will continue to admire and adore you. And since, in spite of everything, our lovely season is meant to last forever”.
