Taking to Twitter, current president Alejandro Giammattei, expressed his heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He further wrote that may god comfort them in the face of such an irreparable loss. Alejandro was not the only person to come forward and express his heartfelt tributes to the late president. Several personalities expressed their sincere respect after learning about his passing.
It is reported that Colom was arrested in 2018 as part of a local corruption investigation looking at buses bought during his administration for a large public transport program.
