God of War fans have been advised to “stay away” from the internet after the biggest PlayStation game of the year leaked nearly two weeks early.
An American retailer has reportedly put God of War: Ragnarok on store shelves nearly two weeks before its scheduled November 9 launch.
Cory Barlog has worked on the God of War franchise since the God of War 2 and says the situation is very disappointing.
“Sorry to everyone that you have to dodge the spoilers if you want to play the game fresh. Completely f—ing stupid you have to do this,” he said.
“This is not at all how any of us at SMS (Santa Monica Studios) wanted things to go.”
The leak has now sent the internet into meltdown, with spoilers posted across social media, Reddit and YouTube.
The game’s narrative director, Matt Sophos, says the best advice is to “stay away” from the internet.

“Just stay away from social media, Reddit, YouTube, etc unless you’re really confident in your ability to mute hashtags and block people,” he posted to Twitter, also apologising to any fans who had the game spoiled.
“We’ve really tried to keep things fresh and surprising for you,” Sophos said.
It’s not yet clear what this means for the official release date, many fans of the series are calling for the game to be released to the public early.
God of War: Ragnarok is releasing on PlayStation 4 and 5 on November 9.
