He was born on 27 December 1941 in Raozan, Bengal Presidency, British India which is now India. He was an activist and politician and also known as a doctor. He was most popular as the founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra which means the Health Center of People and rural healthcare organization in Bengal. He was raised in Kolkata and sometime later his family moved to Bangladesh. He was one of ten siblings in his family and he begin his education at the Nabakumar School at Bakshibazar and finished at Dhaka College.
