Who Was Takahashi Yukihiro?
It is no doubt to say that Takahashi tried to get the best treatment possible for the dreaded disease from a well-known hospital. Despite his very attempts, his brain cancer could not be cured and he, sadly, passed away on Jan 15. The news spread all over the internet and saddened many of his loved ones and well-wishers. Electronic music figures have been coming forward and have been paying the Tokyo-born artist heartfelt tributes on social media.
With Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono, Takahashi co-founded Yellow Magic Orchestra, for which he is well known. The group, which was a global charting hit and contributed to the development of mainstream electronic music in the late 1970s, released albums throughout the 1980s (and one in the 1990s) while collaborating on a variety of solo and side projects.
Takahashi’s primary responsibilities in the group included playing drums and singing lead, notably on well-known songs like the group’s rendition of The Beatles’ “Day Tripper.” The Tokyo-born musician has enjoyed a lengthy and fruitful musical career outside of the group, beginning as a member of the rock group The Sadistic. He released a number of well-received solo albums, including 1981’s Necromantic, which featured other YMO artists and Roxy Music members. Stay tuned with Social Telecast for more updates.
