Sources claim that Amarpuri was introduced to occult rituals by someone else, after which he closed his shop, bought a home, and also constructed a shrine with a cellar where he engaged in his evil deeds. After a lady accused him of sexually assaulting her at his home in 2017, he was first arrested for rape. But he quickly obtained bail for the case. When inspector Pardeep Kumar and his crew were on patrol at Tohana’s Ambedkar Chowk on July 19, 2018, the police claimed to have learned of his crimes.

He was shown a pornographic film of Baba Billu Ram on his phone by a confidential informant. He said that the godman had been torturing the women and extorting money from them in name of religion. Judge Balwant Singh of the Fast Track Court sentenced Billu Ram alias Amarpuri to 14 years in prison under the POCSO Act, seven years in prison on each of the two rape counts, and five years in prison under the IT Act. According to the court, all sentences will be served concurrently.
The prosecution’s attorney stated that they have not yet received a copy of the case’s judgment. On July 19, 2018, Tohana police filed a complaint against Jalebi Baba under sections 292, 293, 294 of the IPC, section 67A of the IT Act, and sections 376, 384, and 509. Later, when it was discovered that one of the victims was a minor, the FIR also included the pertinent sections of the POCSO Act.
Tohana attorney Vijay Krishan Ranga, who represented one of the victims and worked with the prosecution on the case, claimed that Jalebi Baba in Tohana—who was sentenced to 14 years in prison yesterday by the Fast Track Court in the Fatehabad district—attracted a large number of women, including a minor, under the pretense of providing a magical cure for their ailments and warding off the influence of evil spirits while claiming to be an expert in black magic.
