Stefano Domenicali, Formula One chief said that he is saddened to hear that Streiff has passed away. He went on to say that the driver showed incredible guts and determination throughout his life. The chief further added that the way Streiff overcame his accident and focused on rebuilding his life was inspirational and then, sent his deepest and sincere condolences to his family at the difficult time. The saddening piece of news was shared by the organization on Saturday and since then tributes have flooded in for him. Apart from the chief, many of his well-wishers mourned his death.

Who Was Philippe Streiff?
By winning the 1981 French Formula 3 title with the Motul Nogaro team and placing fourth in the European Series the same year, the Frenchman established a solid name in the younger divisions. In 1982, he advanced to the European F2 championship, and in 1983, he achieved his first podium results. Throughout his career, Streiff also had four starts at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Streiff finished overall second for Jean Rondeau in 1981 with co-drivers Jacky Haran and Jean-Louis Schlesser, and he made a podium appearance again in 1984 while driving a Porsche 956 with David Hobbs and Sarel van der Merwe. But 1984, the year he joined the AGS team, turned out to be a turning point for him. He made his debut for the French manufacturer in the Portuguese Grand Prix after earning his first victory at the Brands Hatch race, which convinced the Renault F1 team of his abilities.
He qualified 13th in a third vehicle but was forced to leave the race due to transmission issues. He was hired by Ligier during the conclusion of the next season when the team had lost faith in Andrea de Cesaris.
