According to KIRO Newsradio, Dori Monson, the longstanding conservative radio personality for the Puget Sound region from “the mean streets of Ballard,” passed away Saturday night at a Seattle hospital. He was 61.
Every weekday, Monson hosted his popular three-hour program while also covering regional sports and the Seahawks radio broadcast team for many years.

Prior to starting at KIRO in the early 1990s, Monson studied at the University of Washington and held positions at KING-TV and KING Radio.
His lively program, which aired from noon to 3 p.m. on weekdays, frequently included state politicians from both parties and a snappy rundown of the “fastest 15” headlines. He consistently voiced his disapproval of Sound Transit and the Highway 99 tunnel.
On any given afternoon, boomboxes and parked vans at nearby home-building sites may be heard playing Monson’s show.
Monson led the Shorecrest High School lady’s team to its first state championship in 2016. Other than family matters, he said, that championship run was “perhaps the most thrilling life event I’ve had.” He claimed that he was working an average of 75 hours each week.
