Who is Selena Quintanilla Pérez’s ex husband Chris Pérez?

Christopher Gilbert Pérez was born under the zodiac sign of Leo on 14 August 1969, and so is 49 years old. He is best known as a former member of the Tejano band Selena y Los Dinos, but in addition to his vocal abilities, Chris is probably as well known as the now ex-husband of the frontwoman Selena, who he married in 1992.

New Wife, Kids, Family

When it comes to Pérez’s relationship status, he was married to Selena Quintanilla, his bandmate and the frontwoman of Selena y Los Dinos; their relationship began in 1989 and was strongly discouraged by her father who decided to fire Chris, but nonetheless, the couple married in 1992. Selena and Chris wanted to keep their marriage a secret for a while, and reveal it to her family later on, but the media reported on the ceremony shortly after it happened. Quintanilla’s father didn’t take the news well, and alienated himself from others for a while. However, the couple were together for only three years, until Selena was killed by Yolanda Saldívar, the manager of Selena’s fan club and boutiques. In 2001, Chris married Vanessa Villanueva, with whom he has a daughter and a son.

Net Worth

So just how rich is Chris Pérez as of mid-2018? According to authoritative sources, Pérez has a net worth of over $1.2 million, with his wealth being accumulated from his career in the previously mentioned field. He hasn’t disclosed any information regarding his assets such as houses and cars.

Early Life

Pérez spent his formative years in San Antonio, Texas and was one of two children of Carmen Medina and Gilbert Pérez. Being interested in music from an early age, Chris learned to play French horn in middle school, and would often perform at concerts. Reportedly, his mother supported this decision, but had problems when it came to him choosing to play guitar because of the stereotypes associated with the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. He looked up to musicians such as Def Leppard, Kiss, the Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne and Iron Maiden, and in the 1990s stated that he enjoyed Ricky Martin’s music.

Discography

In 1990, he was featured on “Ven Conmigo”, the second studio album recorded by Selena, which also featured her brother A.B. Quintanilla, who worked as the principal record producer and songwriter. The album consisted of tracks such as “Baila Esta Cumbia”, “Enamorada de Ti”, “Aunque No Salga el Sol” and “No Quiero Saber”, and received a generally positive response from the audience, ultimately certified triple platinum. After that, the band worked on “Entre a Mi Mundi”, Selena’s third studio album, released in mid-1992 through EMI Latin. During the making of the album, Chris fell in love with Selena, which was a problem for her father and the manager of the group, Abraham Quintanilla, which resulted in Chris leaving the band, but later returning when Abraham apologized and accepted their relationship. The album, consisting of 10 tracks including “Como la Flor”, “La Carcacha”, “Yo Te Sigo Queriendo” and “Missing My Baby”, received critical acclaim which saw Chris gain more attention from the media.

Dreaming of You

The fifth and the last album of the group was entitled “Dreaming of You”, released posthumously to Selena’s death in mid-1995, by EMI Latin and EMI Records. The album received overwhelmingly positive response and success, making its debut atop the US Billboard 200 and selling more than 175,000 copies on the first day of its release, more than 330,000 copies in its first week, so achieving vast success.

Chris Pérez Band

After Selena was killed and the others disbanded the group, Chris started his own Chris Pérez Band, and released two albums with them. In 1999, the group recorded “Resurrection”, their debut album which featured songs inspired by Selena, overall 15 songs such as “Noches En Vela”, “Best I Can”, “Resurrection” and “Agua Benita”. In 2002, the band produced “Una Noche Más” which featured songs such as “Dime Por Qué Te Vas”, “Una Noche Más”, “Ahora Que Voy A Marcharme” and “Y Yo Te Voy A Amar”. After that, the band unfortunately fell through, and Pérez went on to continue his career with Kumbia Kings. As of 2012, he wrote the book “To Selena, With Love”. Reportedly, he didn’t ask her family for permission and approval, but Abraham, Selena’s father eventually approved of the book after it was published.

Private Life

Until “To Selena, With Love” was released, Pérez tried his best to keep his private life to himself. He was also described as “shy and uncomfortable when in the spotlight”, but was also considered talented, dedicated, honest and someone who could be believed in. Being in the entertainment field, Chris is also active on social media such as Instagram, on which he is followed by an army of 275,000 people, often sharing photos of himself and his friends.

2 I can’t say anything about how I am going to feel in another hour much less you know a year from now or something. After what has happened… honestly I still feel married because I still feel that big part of me. I know legally it’s not the case but I still feel that way! – on coping with the loss of his wife Selena
