Who is Nate Diaz?

Born Nathan Donald “Nate” Diaz on the 16th April 1985 in Stockton, California USA, he is a professional mixed martial artist, who came to prominence by winning “The Ultimate Fighter 5” series of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2007. Since then, he has won a number of awards and honors, and has defeated such notable mixed martial artists as Conor McGregor, Gray Maynard and others, however, a title in a category still eludes him. He fights primarily in the lightweight division, though he also fought as a welterweight.

Early Life, Family, Brother, and Education

Of Mexican and English ancestry, Nate is the younger brother of Nick Diaz, also a successful mixed martial artist. Nate attended Tokay High School, but he didn’t take much interest in studies, instead focusing on training in martial arts. Alongside his brother, once he was old enough, Nate launched his professional career.

Career Beginnings

Nate first joined World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), making his debut in October 2004 with a victory over Alejandro Garcia. He compiled a 6-2 record until late 2006, when the WEC was acquired by Zuffa LLC, which at the time was the parent company of the UFC. Thanks to his successful start, Nate was chosen as a contestant for the 5th season of The Ultimate Fighter as a part of Jens Pulver’s team. In the stage round Nate was better than Rob Emerson and continued successfully into the elimination stages, where he defeated Corey Hill, then Gray Maynard before the finals, while in the last match of the tournament, Nate defeated Manvel Gamburyan, and so was crowned champion of The Ultimate Fighter 5.

Rise to Prominence

Nate’s name subsequently resounded in octagons, as he signed a contract with the UFC. He fought his first match against Junior Assunção, whom Nate defeated after only four minutes and ten seconds. He continued lining up victories against such mixed martial artists as Alvin Robinson, Kurt Pellegrino and Josh Neer – he received Submission of the Night honors after defeating Alvin and Kurt by triangle choke while following the victory against Josh Neer, their fight was named Fight of the Night. His first defeat happened at UFC 94 in January 2009, against Clay Guida, though by split decision. He suffered another loss, this time to former King of the Cage Welterweight Champion Joe Stevenson, but bounced back with a victory against Melvin Guillard. This was Nate’s 11th victory in his career already, making him a star mixed martial artist.

Championship Bouts and Most Recent Career

Nate continued with impressive performances in the octagon, defeating such fighters as Donald Cerrone, Jim Miller and others, but was yet without a title match. That all changed in December 2012, when he was given the chance to fight for the UFC Lightweight Championship against Benson Henderson, in a match televised on Fox 5 in a pay per view event. Unfortunately, Nate lost the match by a unanimous decision, and since then Nate has been in mixed form, winning only three fights, while losing six. However, he defeated Connor McGregor in a March 2016 fight, which has been regarded a Performance of the Night, Fight of the Night, and Submission of the Year. He hasn’t made a single appearance following the rematch against McGregor in August 2016, which Nate lost by decision. Nate now runs a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school in Lodi, California with his brother Nick.

You are probably wondering how rich Nate Diaz is, considering his massive success as a mixed martial artist. Well, according to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Nate’s net worth is as high as $5 million – pretty decent don’t you think?

There is no doubt that his wealth will increase further if he goes back to the octagon anytime soon, as his pay-per-view matches are now paying more than $5 million. In his last pay-per-view match, Nate earned $7 million, which indicates that his wealth may actually be rather more than that!
