Who is Michelle Beadle?

Born Michelle Denise Beadle on the 23rd October 1975 in Italy, she is a prominent sports reporter and TV show host, best known to the world from her extensive work for ESPN, including as one of the hosts of the show “Get Up!”, next to Mike Greenberg and Jalen Rose. Before joining ESPN, Michelle worked for both ABC and NBC, among many other networks.

Early Life, Family, and Education

The daughter of Bon Beadle and Serenella Paladino, Michelle is the oldest of three children, as she has a younger brother and sister. Her father, Bob was an executive at Valero Energy, so although born in Italy, she and her family returned to the USA and settled in Roanoke, Texas, located just outside of Dallas, then moved to Boerne, a small town close to San Antonio. During her childhood years, Michelle didn’t speak English well, and learned the language alongside her mother, who also wasn’t an eloquent English speaker. She went to Boerne High School, and upon graduation enrolled at the University of Texas, Austin to study political science as a pre-law student. As her studies progressed she joined a law group, and started working at the capitol in Austin. However, this experience proved to Michelle that she wasn’t suited to law, and decided to leave her studies. She moved to Canada where she had several odd jobs while thinking about what to do with her life, then returned to the US after three years and started working as a waitress, before enrolling at the University of Texas at San Antonio, from which she graduated.

Career Beginnings

Growing up, Michelle was a tomboy and interest in all sports, which helped her at the start of her subsequent career, as on her father’s suggestion and with his help, Michelle became an intern for the San Antonio Spurs basketball team. She then became a sideline reporter for the NBA franchise, and as she gained experience, she was given a chance at Fox Sports Net, serving as host of the Big Game Hunters. It was in 2002 that her career received the boost Michelle needed; she joined TNN as a “behind-the-chutes” sideline reporter, covering the Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Bud Light Cup tour. Although planned as a fill-in for two weeks, she was promoted to a full-time reporter, but during her time at TNN, she was also freelancing for CBS Sports, covering the PBR and ESPN’s Titan Games.

Michelle subsequently joined ESPN, but not before she worked for YES Network, where she covered New Jersey Nets basketball games, and also worked for Travel Channel. Michelle was then seen as a Red Carpet reporter for the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Tony Awards and other events.

Rise to Prominence

Thanks to her numerous engagements, Michelle joined ESPN in June 2009, taking a place as co-host of “SportsNation”, next to Colin Cowherd. She got the job ahead of 142 other candidates, after writing a sarcastic list of “10 things you would do to make the show better”. The show premiered on ESPN2, and gradually Michelle became more popular with the public, alongside Colin. Michelle was also a part of “Winners Bracket”, and had her own podcast, entitled “The Michelle Beadle Podcast”. However, in 2012 she left ESPN to join NBC, ‘feeling the latter network has more to offer her than ESPN.

Career on NBC

She was appointed as host on the NBC Sports Network and also made a correspondent on Access Hollywood. She was part of the morning studio coverage of the 2012 London Olympics on NBC Sports Network, and in January 2013 became a host of the show “The Crossover with Beadle and Briggs”, alongside Dave Briggs. However, after just four months, Briggs left the show and she became the sole host. Unfortunately, in this form the show only aired until September 2013, when it was cancelled.

Return to ESPN

Nevertheless, Michelle wasn’t long without engagement, as she returned to ESPN as a host of SportsNation. She slowly progressed as a part of ESPN, and now can be seen in several sports shows, such as “NBA Countdown”, and “Get Up!”. She has also contributed to ESPN’s subsidiary Grantland.
