Maria Stephanos was born on the 9th June 1964 in Boston, Massachusetts USA, and is a journalist, probably best recognized for working for Fox25 News Television, as well as at the WCVB channel 5. She has also worked on radio, primarily with NPR, among many other radio stations such as WABC Radio in New York. Her hard work was rewarded in 2000 with an Associated Press Award.

Maria Stephanos Bio: Early Life, Maiden Name, Parents, and Education

Unfortunately, there is no information in the media what is the maiden name of Maria, as she has only been professionally known as Maria Stephanos. Maria spent her childhood at Groveland in her hometown, where she was raised by her father, who worked as a salesman, and her mother, a beauty salon designer. Maria suffered a stroke when she was only three years old, but to no permanent effect. Upon matriculation from Boston High school, she enrolled at the Umass Amherst College, from which she graduated with a degree in journalism, then continued her education at Emerson College, where she earned her MA degree in mass communication.

Career Beginnings

Maria worked as a waitress during her college years, but soon after she got her degree, she started on radio, as a news reporter for such stations as WABC, WBUR, WNBC Radio and WCBS, among others. She was slowly building knowledge and experience needed for a further career, and it was in 1997 that she made her first breakthrough when she was recruited by Fox25 News Television to work as a general assignment reporter. Gradually her career was improving, and she joined Boston’s WFXT-TV where she was to be a news anchor and reporter for nearly eighteen years.

Rise to Prominence

As a general assignment reporter, Maria covered a number of major events across the US, including John F. Kennedy Jr., the Presidential recount vote live from Florida, the Worcester Cold Storage fire, and the 9/11 attacks, among many others. She was also given freedom to report on major sports events such as the Red Sox World series win and Patriots’ Super Bowl wins. Thanks to her dedication and hard work, her name became recognized all over the US, making her a star, however, it was in 2015 that Maria reached prominence as she was recruited by the WCVB Channel 5, since when she has continued to move up, and has held several other positions; she is now a co-anchor of “NewsCenter 5” with Harvey Leonard, the chief meteorologist, and sports anchor Mike Lynch.
