Growing up, Kelli described herself as shy, though despite this, she was noticed by a talent agent while she was attending a friend’s bar mitzvah, which led to one of her first roles in an Eggo commercial. She attended Thousand Oaks High School, and during her time there was cast in the short film “Architecture of Assurance”, which was released in 2000 to critical acclaim. She also played soccer, and initially wanted to become a professional soccer player before acting roles came her way. After matriculating, she started to gain more roles through short films, before getting a supporting role in the television film “Time Share”. In 2001 she made her film debut in “Bully” in which she plays Heather Swallers, a teenager who becomes entwined in an orchestrated murder of one of her peers. Her next major role would come three years later in the Martin Scorsese film “The Aviator”, playing the role of actress Faith Domergue, having auditioned in front of Scorsese and co-star Leonardo DiCaprio for the role.

Around the same time, she also had roles in “London” and “Dreamland”, which got her a Method Fest Independent Film Festival Best Actress Award. She also tried her hand at stage work with the Off-Broadway play “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead”, then worked with the band Green Day on music videos “Jesus of Suburbia”, and “Whatsername”.
