Career Beginnings

Dean’s professional career in the film industry started in 2008, when he edited the short film “Steven”, directed by David Bellarosa. His breakthrough came in the following year, when he wrote the script and made his debut as director for the short film entitled “Science Fair (Or: Migratory Patterns & The Flight Of The March Brown Mayfly)”, starring Blanche Baker, Craig Geraghty and Michael Harris, after which he edited two short film titles – “Reality Boom” and “Fashion Kills!” – both in 2009. In 2010, he worked as an editor for the Independent Film Channel pseudo-reality cooking show “Food Party”, and for the TV film “Superego”.

Rise to Fame and “Marcel The Shell With Shoes On”

In 2010, Dean wrote, produced, directed and edited the first part of the short animated comedy film “Marcel The Shell With Shoes On”, in which Jenny Slate provided her voice to the main character, an animated anthropomorphic shell, and which won the 2010 AFI Fest Award in the Best Animated Short category. At the beginning of the next decade, he released its sequel entitled “Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, Two”, while the third part of the short film series, “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Three” out came in 2014.

Dean’s next major project came in 2013, when he wrote and directed the TV series “Catherine”, which featured Jenny Slate, as well as the short film of the same name, after which he wrote and directed the short film “We Do Not Belong”, and was chosen to direct the TV series “Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!”, both in 2013. Dean also wrote the script for the TV film “Thank You Very Much With Host Jack Antonoff”, and directed the TV film “Rubberhead”, both in 2014. Most recently, he worked as the executive producer, director and editor of the TV mini-series “David” (2016), which was followed in the same year by the documentary film “Fraud”, which he directed, winning the 2017 DocAviv Film Festival Award, among many others, so increasing further his net worth.
