Who is home advisor Amy Matthews?

Amy Matthews was born on the 19th May 1973 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota USA, and is a licensed general contractor, home decorator, and interior designer, best known to the world for her appearances in such shows as “Sweat Equity” on DIY Network, and “Renovation Raiders”, aired on HGTV, among many other shows focused on house renovations.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Amy has been interested in home decorating and renovations from an early age, having her first taste of home decorating when she was 14 years old, becoming a member of a local church group that repaired homes for families in need. Realizing she liked the job, she joined other organization that focused on the same problem, and she was soon more into the house renovation business. Following her successful completion of high school, she enrolled at Boston University and then attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. After she obtained her degree, Amy returned to her native Minnesota, and her career was ready to start.

She became a part of the Guthrie Theatre, and then the Minnesota Opera, passing on her ideas while she also contributed to Hey City Theatre, Open Eye Figure Theatre, and Mixed Blood Theatre. Gradually, her skills were improving, and she found a place for herself with The Family Handyman magazine, while also obtaining a license to work as a general contractor.

Thanks to the popularity of the show, Amy herself became rather popular with the public, but also at the network, which resulted in her being promoted to HGTV, and its “Renovation Raiders” show in 2013. However, Amy’s work has been featured in a number of high profile publications, such as Country Living, Good Housekeeping, The New York Times, and Esquire, among others.
