In 2007, he was cast in one of his most notable roles, in “Destination Truth”, which was a weekly paranormal reality television series, in which he travels around the world to investigate claims of the supernatural, mostly involving cryptozoology.

Around this time he had other projects, including collaborating with the show “Ghost Hunters” whose cast members would later appear as a part of “Destination Truth”. He also collaborated with shows such as “Fact or Faked: Paranormal”, segments of which would go on to appear in his show. After the run of “Destination Truth”, he started working on the paranormal television series “Stranded”; each episode of the show features a three person team made up of paranormal skeptics and enthusiasts, who spend several days together at some of the most haunted locations in North America. The show was short lived however, as it only lasted for six episodes during its first season.

Later Work

Gates would later relocate to Los Angeles, after which he’s been more active in terms of work. He’s appeared in a national commercial for BMW and has also as a part of commercials for Stanley Tools as well as EA Sports video games. He’s also tried his hand at voice acting, and is the narrator of the audio book of the Richard B. Pelzer memoir “A Brother’s Journey”, which earned him an Earphones Award by Audiolife Magazine.

One of his current projects is the show “Expedition Unknown” as the host and executive producer; the show is aired on the Travel Channel, and features Gates travelling to various locations around the world in search of evidence of mythological places, items and treasure. Some of his investigations include looking for Incan lost cities, the Forest Fenn treasure, hunting DB Cooper, and the disappearance of Amelia Earheart. Aside from his television work, he has also published his first book entitled “Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter”, detailing his encounters with a variety of dangerous creatures.

It is known that Josh is married to Hallie Gnatovich, who he worked with as a co-star in the show “Destination Truth”. They married in 2014, and a year later had a son – while filming an episode of “Expedition Unknown” about Christopher Columbus, he received the call that he was going to be a dad.

Josh has ‘summited’ Mt. Kilimanjaro, and Mt. Aconcagua which is located in the Argentine Andesregion.
