Having a great college career behind him, Ezekiel was predicted to be in the top 10 picks of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Dallas Cowboys selected him as the fourth overall pick and made him a starter since the first game. Ezekiel played in 15 games, starting all of them and had a total of 1,631 rushing yards and scored 15 touchdowns. He also added one receiving touchdown with 363 receiving yards. His successful season won him several awards, including an invitation to Pro Bowl, then selection into the First-team All-Pro, PFWA All-Rookie Team, and was also the NFL rushing yards leader. The next season wasn’t very successful for the young running back since he missed six games due to suspension, and in the 10 games that he played he had 983 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, with 269 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

He bounced back in the 2018 season and had another 1,000+ rushing yards season, this time 1,434 yards but only six touchdowns, and also had the most receiving yards with 567 from 77 receptions, and added three touchdowns.
