Cassidy is the youngest of three children of parents who were prominent Chicago attorneys Lee and Glynna Freeman; the family also owned a cattle ranch in Montana. While very little is known about her childhood, it is known that she developed an interest in acting and music, as did her siblings. She attended The Latin School of Chicago, and after matriculating enrolled at Middlebury College in Vermont, graduating in 2005 with a degree in Spanish and theatre.

An Acting Career

Cassidy started her career by appearing in various short films, and also having roles in several television films. She would then make guest appearances in the series “Cold Case”, before she starred in the thriller film “Yellow Brick Road” directed by Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton, and then in the award winning short film entitled “Razor Sharp”, playing the role of Jessica Sharpe.

In 2008, she had one of her first notable main roles when she was cast as a part of the eighth season of the television series “Smallville”. The series is based on the DC Comics character Superman and is set in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas where the character Clark Kent grows up before he became Superman. Cassidy got the role of the acting CEO of LuthorCorp Tess Mercer, after Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor left the show, and she would stay with the series until its end in 2011. Concurrently she also had roles in other projects, including appearing in an episode of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” during its tenth season.

Later Work

In 2012, Freeman was cast in the third season of “The Vampire Diaries” in the role of Sage. The series is based on the popular book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith, and would run until 2017. She was also cast as one of the stars of a new series by A&E and Netflix entitled “Longmire”, in the role of Cady Longmire – the series is based on a series of novels entitled “Walt Longmire Mysteries” by best-selling author Craig Johnson, and is focused on a sheriff located in the fictional county Absaroka in Wyoming, as he investigates crimes within his jurisdiction.

Aside from her acting work, Freeman also works with her brother Clark, teaming up with Andy Mitton to form the band called The Real D’Coy, in which she sings and plays the. She’s also known to be active in charity, and is a member of Heal the Bay which works to cleaning and protecting West Coast waters. She also does tutoring as a part of the Virginia Avenue Project.

Personal Life

There have been numerous rumors about Cassidy’s romantic relationships, as she’s very private when it comes to that aspect of her life. She’s had several on-screen romances, but no rumors were ever confirmed about any relationship away from the cameras. Eventually, it was revealed that she married longtime partner Justin Carpenter in 2012, in a private ceremony only attended by select family members and friends.
