Afzal Ansari was convicted in connection with the 2005 kidnapping and killing case of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and was sentenced to four years imprisonment.
An Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act case was lodged at Mohammadabad Police Station in Ghazipur district in 2007.
