Eka was raised in Cairns by his mother Malaika MaVeena and father Ray Darville, who is known as a reggae artist. He attended Byron Bay High School in Byron Bay, New South Wales, where he became interested in acting, and so decided to enroll in the Victorian College of Arts. Later he moved to the US, to study Electronic Music Production in New York City.
