Joy was born in Olongapo, Philippines, and her mother was Filipina while her father was Puerto Rican. She grew up in the Philippines for the first seven years of her life, then moved to Los Angeles, California with her family when she was seven, and lived with her parents.During her younger years, Joy was involved in a number of activities in school, being into theater acts, choir, and dance groups. She also joined her school’s cheerleading group.
