Gilad Shalit Parents (1)

Gilad Shalit parents, Noam Shalit and Aviva Shalit, are two influential people in his life. His father, Noam, played a crucial role during his captivity and release.

Born on August 28, 1986, Shalit is a former soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. The Palestinian militants captured him on June 25, 2006.

This started a challenging five years under Hamas until he was released on October 18, 2011, as part of a deal.

Shalit was the first Israeli soldier taken by Palestinian fighters since Nachshon Wachsman in 1994. Many sources have called Shalit’s capture a kidnapping.

During this time, he didn’t get visits from the Red Cross, couldn’t talk to family, and there was a demand for some kind of payment for his release.

Gilad Shalit Parents: Noam Shalit And Aviva Shalit

Gilad Shalit was born to his parents, Noam Shalit and Aviva Shalit, on August 28, 1986, in Nahariya, Israel.

Shalit’s parents, especially his dad, Noam, played an essential part in returning his son.

In April 2008, he met with ex-U.S. President Jimmy Carter when Carter visited Israel.

Noam thought it was smart because Carter wasn’t seen as super pro-Israel, and he hoped that would help in the tricky talks to get Gilad released.

In June 2008, hope was raised as Hamas sent a third letter to the Shalit family, a promise fulfilled after mediation by Carter.

They checked if the handwriting matched to make sure the letter was really from Gilad. It was a heartfelt kink in the middle of all the tough times.

Noam Shalit, who was not happy with how the U.S. was getting in the way of talks to free his son, worked through all the complicated diplomatic stuff with strength and determination.

His effort came to life when Gilad was released on October 18, 2011, as part of a prisoner exchange deal.

Sadly, the Shalit family faced a tragedy when Noam died from cancer in March 2022 at 68.

His six-year battle with leukemia showed how tough he was, fighting for his son and against his tough times.

Throughout everything, Gilad’s mom, Aviva Shalit, provided solid support.

As parents, they went beyond politics and all the international mess to truly commit to their family.

Gilad Shalit Wife And Family

Gilad Shalit’s journey from being kept captive to getting married was made special by his wife, Nitzan Shabbat.

In June 2021, they had a lovely ceremony in Emek Hefer, central Israel, marking their commitment a decade after Hamas released him.

Their wedding took place at Sharonit Event Hall. Family, close friends, and those who supported Gilad’s freedom from 2006 to 2011 were all there to celebrate.

As they walked to the Chuppah, Gilad with his parents, Noam and Aviva Shalit, and Nitzan with her parents, Bilha and Moshe Shabat, two families came together, showing strength and happiness.

The couple has since made their home in central Israel, living their moments away from the public eye.

Gilad currently works in Bank Discount’s security department. His partner, Nitzan, is a social worker and an artist.

They want to keep their life private. Their wedding was small and personal, only for close friends and family.

Their family and friends promised not to discuss the wedding, keeping it unique and private.

Nitzan and Gilad’s story is about overcoming hard times and finding joy in everyday simple moments.
