Kenneth Robertson Bruce, famed by his on-air name Ken Bruce is a Scottish broadcaster best known for hosting his long-running weekday mid-morning show on BBC Radio 2.
He began his BBC Career as a BBC Radio 4 Scotland staff announcer. Later, following the launch of BBC Radio, Scotland became one of the original presenters of Nightbeat.
Before his journalism career, he received his training as a chartered accountant and began his broadcasting career with the Hospital Broadcasting Service in Glasgow.
Ken became a stand-in presenter on Radio 2 and began regularly presenting for Radio 2 in January 1984 when he assumed hosting duties for the Saturday late-night show.
In December 2008, the BBC presenter was officially inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame.
Where Is Ken Bruce Going After Leaving BBC Radio 2?
BBC Radio 2’s Ken announced on air that he is leaving the station after 31 years of hosting its weekday mid-morning show.
Bruce announced on January 17, 2023, that he would be leaving BBC Radio 2 to pursue other opportunities outside the BBC, including hosting a new mid-morning show for Greatest Hits Radio.
As per Mirror, BBC Radio 2 broke the news of 71-year-old Ken’s decision in a morning tweet. The tweet read: ” after 31 years of presenting the 9:30am-midday weekday show, Ken Bruce has decided to leave.
While the BBC presenter was on holiday in August 2007, he was briefly replaced by Davina McCall, which attracted more than 150 complaints from listeners.
In September 2018, Ken became the patron of Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio, replacing the former mayor of Aylesbury and long-standing patron and co-founder of the station, Freda Roberts.

Is Ken Bruce Retiring?
After serving over three decades, Ken announced his retirement on January 17, 2023.
The BBC presenter left his most listened-to show slot on British radio and migrated to join rival station Greatest Hits Radio.
Greatest Hits Radio issued a statement claiming Ken said Popmaster will take over from Mark Goodier in the 10 am until 1 pm weekday slot, with his new gig starting on April 3, 2023.
BBC claims the Radio 2 presenter, famed for its daily Popmaster quiz, currently has more than 8.5 million weekly listeners, according to data from industry body Rajar.
Following his departure, the BBC has yet to confirm who will replace Bruce. However, Radio 2 often promotes presenters from within its existing roster.
Trevor Nelson, Rylan Clark, Claudia Winkleman, Dermot O’Leary and Jo Whiley are among the names who could be considered for Bruce’s slot.
Ken Bruce Career and Career Earnings
According to the last BBC annual report, the Radio Hall of Famer earned between £385,000-£389,999 in 2021-22.
BB Radio 2 presenter was one of the station’s longest-serving hosts; he joined the BBC in 1977 and took his first regular Radio 2 slot in 1984.
Besides his journalism career, he won an edition of Celebrity Mastermind, with his specialist subject being the Jeeves novels of P.G. Wodehouse.
The Radio Hall of Famer, Ken’s autobiography entitled, the Tracks of My Years: The Autobiography, got published on September 4, 2009.
